Chic & Green's Complete Skin Care Diary

For any of you who've been reading over the past 12+ years, you know that I am always trying out different products to let you know how they are. Things have been a bit different this year, as I have been -- shockingly -- using the SAME skincare products on my face for more than 6 months. Even more of a surprise (especially to me) is that I have repurchased many of these items because I just cannot be without them.

You see, one of the perks of beauty writing for so many years is that I am always being sent products to try out. I used to skip buying skincare because I know I will not run out. Things are different now. Every one of these products is something I have been asked to test out, but that worked so well that I wanted to continue using them well beyond my standard testing stage. THIS is the routine that is working for me as a mid 40s woman with combination/sensitive skin.

You will notice that these are not drugstore products. I love drugstore products, but I love products that perform for my skin even more. These are a splurge. That said, I am not a big spender. I never ever pay full price for clothes or shoes. EVER. I give myself facials and do my own nails (most of the time). I get my hair cut at Supercuts. By the way, a HUGE shout-out to Reba at the Titus Avenue Supercuts. She is a gem! I color my own hair at home with Wella Color Charm and Redken Shades EQ. I make most of my own jewelry. I pride myself in being a bargain hunter. I don't drive a luxury vehicle and no longer have private school tuition to pay for. I stopped going to hot yoga several months ago and do yoga at home. I walk and use my rowing machine and elliptical instead of  paying for a gym membership. I make my own coffee most days to enjoy my Starbucks here.

Since I save money on so many other areas of life, I do invest in skincare because the fact of the matter is that I only have one skin. One. I might as well take care of it the best way I can! Since I am a needle-phobe and am personally on the fence about fillers, I am happy to to spend money on a serum or pricey sunscreen if it keeps my confident and with good skin health. I consider this a major part of my self care ritual.

ANYWAY, for my bargain hunting friends, you can almost always find a coupon code for all of these online. You can also use Easy Pay at QVC or Afterpay on many sites to break your purchases up into interest-free payments if you would like.

Without further adieu, here is my skincare routine. I have not had to make ANY tweaks to it in months. I stopped using foundation (I was using Born This Way from Too Faced and now use a CC cream when going out) because the uneven pigmentation and redness are almost gone. My melasma patch is 75% gone as well.

Exfoliant (I also use this as my AM toner): Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant

AM Serum: Paula's Choice Power Berry Serum

AM Moisturizer (as needed): Clinique Dramatically Different Moisture Gel

Eye Care: Maelove Eye Enhancer  is my favorite daytime eye cream. Enriched with peptides and coffee seed, it really is a lovely brightening and line-fighting cream that wears well under makeup.

Night Time Skincare Routine

Makeup Remover: Bioderma Sensibio is my holy grail makeup remover. I used to use an oil cleanser to remove makeup, but I am SO OVER oil cleansing and the resulting clogged pores. I use this micellar water, rinse with water, and follow with cleanser. This bottle lasts a year!

Exfoliant: Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Peel Pads (3-4 nights a week)

Gentle Toner: Paula's Choice Advanced Replenishing Toner

Brown Spot Corrector: ONCE a week only for maintenance on my melasma, I use Paula's Choice C25 Super Booster. It is strong, but it seriously faded a brown spot in three uses when I first got this.

Retinol Treatment for Lines and Wrinkles: Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Wrinkle Recovery Overnight Serum

Eye Cream: Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM Eye Cream

I also have been careful to take the same level of care on the rest of my body.

Body Cleanser: I use EVOLVh Smart Body Foaming Wash to cleanse. I love the foam -- this is the perfect summertime cleanser. It has a very soft natural grapefruit aroma and leaves my skin clean and soft.

Body Exfoliant:  I have eliminated all body scrubs. This was a toughie because I used to be a body scrubaholic. I switched to chemical exfoliants on the body. Instead of scrubs, I alternate between AHA and BHA daily. I use Paula's Choice Skin Revealing 10% AHA Body Lotion and Paula's Choice Weightless Body Treatment. No one makes a better exfoliant -- these leave skin glowing and will help to clear red bumpy spots caused by Keratosis Pilaris.

Body Moisturizer: When I step out of the shower, I use Seed Body Cream, either fragrance free or lemongrass depending on my mood. It leaves my skin hydrated without feeling greasy.

Billie Razor: Can we talk about shaving? My hair grows CRAZY fast and dark, thanks to my Greek genes. I use an epilator in the winter but cannot stand regrowth in the skin-bearing months. I have a home IPL system for more permanent hair removal that I am using, but you still need to shave in between. I saw those catchy ads on Instagram for Billie and decided to order. THEY ARE THE BEST RAZORS ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH. Try them! I am in no way affiliated with them, but they are the bomb dot com. They leave your skin SO smooth and buttery soft. I swear.

Soft Lips Overnight: My night time go-to for lip pampering while I get some ZZZZs is from Weleda. It is called the Weleda Skin Food Lip Butter and it really feels soothing on my lips. I can feel a difference in the morning.

Kopari all over: Last but not least -- every night I slather my skin with coconut oil. Not just any coconut oil, but Kopari Organic Coconut Melt. I use a pea sized amount in my hair, I use it everywhere - feet, neck, chest -- all over for intense hydration.
