Clarins Extra Firming Day Cream Review
There are literally thousands of anti wrinkle creams on the market these days. Just look at any
store shelf. Whether you’re at the cosmetics counter, Sephora or in your local grocery store, there are many products promising you the fountain of youth.
Knowing which products are truly effective can be really time consuming. Fancy packaging and
slick advertising tend to convince us that a product will be effective. What matters most, though,
are the ingredients used in the cream.
Over the past decade or so, there have been many advancements made in the skincare industry. Through research and scientific testing, many anti-wrinkle products on the market can truly deliver noticeable benefits. The product I am reviewing today is one of those creams.
product does not let me down. Confession: I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Clarins. My first full-time job after college was as a Clarins Counter Manager and through my work with the line, I was trained on French facial techniques (which are not the same as methods taught in my esthetics courses - although those were very helpful, too!) The means of applying products the Clarins way is truly an experience, not just a chore.
Clarins, in many ways, was the first luxe brand with plant-based botanicals. I use their products often, even though I left the company in the late 90s.
This is my favorite Clarins cream. I adore the silky, lightweight consistency. It absorbs right into the
skin beautifully and my skin instantly feels more nourished. Clarins products have a way of
feeling luxurious on the skin, and this one does just that. I am able to apply makeup within 10
minutes after using the cream without it causing my makeup to pill, which is common with
many richer creams. It is the ideal texture for daytime wear.
I also see noticeable results with this product, as my skin has an immediate luminous
appearance. This cream, over time, does definitely help to tone the skin and gives it a more
radiant look and smoother texture. I consider this my go to normal-combination cream and it has remained in my arsenal for years.
What's in it?

Thoughts on the ingredients
This is a paraben free formula. While I no longer actively avoid parabens because of there is no credible scientific research to indicate that they are harmful, many will see this as a selling point.
I am not crazy of the fact that this has yellow color. There is no need. Yellow coloring won't impact product efficacy -- it serves no purpose. It is not an ingredient to be worried about, however. My biggest bone of contention here is that there is artificial fragrance, which is the leading cause of allergies in skin care. This product has not bothered me because I am so used to Clarins aromas over the past 2-plus decades. There is SLS in this -- the amount is negligible healthwise, yet it serves no purpose in a cream. For those concerned about Sodium Hydroxide, it is in this as a pH adjuster and will not harm the skin.
There are some AMAZING ingredients in this cream that render it VERY EFFECTIVE:
Green Banana Fruit Extract - Rich in anti-aging Vitamin A and in potassium, banana extract helps to fade brown spots and other pigmentation issues. It is also nourishing and benefits those with dry skin. This natural extract has also been shown to strengthen collagen fibers.
Hyaluronic Acid - This ingredient holds 1000 times its weight in water and acts as a skin moisture magnet. It makes skin feel supple.
Oat Kernel Extract - Improve skin texture, making it smoother and more supple
Bocoa Extract - Patented by Clarins for its use in skincare, the extract is used to invigorate and stimulate the skin, boosting radiance and promoting a youthful glow.
Hops - Soothing; it has been used to treat inflammation and conditions such as psoriasis
Lemon Thyme - This ingredient stimulates circulation, has a grounding aroma, and helps to improve acne. It is a gentle clarifying ingredient.
Sunflower Seed Oil - I talk about sunflower seed oil all the time here on C & G. I have probably sung its praises over a hundred times over the past 11 years of blogging here. I will say it again -- Sunflower Seed Oil is such an important skincare ingredient. It is protective, nourishing, and radiance boosting.
The Chic & Green Bottom Line
Clarins is a pricier brand. It is a solid brand with a very long history behind it. The company is known for its research and thinking outside of the box when it comes to botanically based ingredients. Their skincare products are among my top 5 brands of all time and this cream is among my top 5 firming moisturizers of all time. It is expensive. That said, if you splurge on skincare, do not pass this one up. Clarins Extra-Firming Day Cream is a really beautiful formula that I highly recommend.
