e.l.f. -- A Second Chance
I haven't tried e.l.f. (Eyes Lips Face) products in a few years. At the time, this super duper affordable brand (think $1-$5 or so) had poor ingredients and equally as poor quality. I stuck my nose up and never looked back. Until recently.
When I was at Target a few weeks back, I noticed several new e.l.f. products. Many are free of the nasties. Some are -- dare I say -- department store quality. The selection was a bit limited (and our Walmart doesn't seem to carry the line), so I ended up browsing more online and was able to order 9 products for $28 (which included tax and free shipping).
Next favorite item: the Foundation SPF 15. The ingredients are extremely similar to Bare Minerals. If you do not have an issue with Bismuth Oxychloride (it makes some people itch), then go for this. It is $5 and really looks lovely and applies seamlessly. The e.l.f. is $5 and the Bare Minerals is $27.
Now we all know that Anastasia Beverly Hills is known as the creme de la creme of brow grooming cosmetics. What we didn't know? The e.l.f. Eyebrow Kit has BETTER ingredients (still petrochemicals, but paraben free) and is $3 as opposed to $22 -- and the pricey version contains 3 different parabens. I bought the kit in Ash and it is great. Even in this horrendous 90+ degree heat and humidity, it stays on.
I also have to rave about the bronzer! Let's compare the $8 e.l.f. bronzer to the $34.50 Clinique Superbalanced Bronzer, which (as most Clinique items are) may be fragrance free, but still contains the nasties. The e.l.f. is a truly natural mineral bronzer which gives the skin a naturally radiant bronze glow. This isn't the dreaded disco ball glitter , but rather a sun-kissed glow.
The Chic & Green Bottom Line:
At these prices, there is plenty of room for trial and error if you order online and aren't nuts about the colors. I haven't had duds yet, thankfully. These are rock bottom, cheap prices that DO NOT equate to cheap quality like before! My tip--check the ingredients. Not all e.l.f. products (especially the $1 ones) are paraben free, so beware of that. I DO love that they fully disclose all the ingredients, too!
