Weekend Treats

~Sharing some recipes you can make this weekend. ~

The first comes from the Bakerella blog. It's the Red Velvet Cake Ball recipe. Yum. These little things are addictive! 

Recipe (from Bakerella):

1 box red velvet cake mix (cook as directed on box for 13 X 9 cake)
1 can cream cheese frosting (16 oz.)
1 package chocolate bark (regular or white chocolate)
wax paper

1. After cake is cooked and cooled completely, crumble into large bowl.

2. Mix thoroughly with 1 can cream cheese frosting.

3. Roll mixture into quarter size balls and lay on cookie sheet.

4. Chill for several hours.

5. Melt chocolate in microwave per directions on package.

6. Roll balls in chocolate and lay on wax paper until firm. 

The next comes from The Idea Room blog. I made the Oreo bark. I did two variations: one with melted white chocolate drizzled with dark chocolate and the other is melted dark chocolate drizzled with white chocolate.

My recipe is a bit different than the one from The Idea Room. I use one bag of Oreos, 1 bag (12 oz.) of Ghiradelli White Chips and 12 ounces of dark chocolate.


Put the oreos into a large ziploc bag and crush them until they are in small, bite-sized pieces.

Melt the 2 chocolates separately.

When chocolate is melted and smooth, carefully stir in Oreo pieces. I do half of the Oreos in the dark, half in the white.

Spread the mixture onto a wax paper covered cookie sheet, trying to keep the cookies in an even layer.

I reserve a bit of each chocolate so I can drizzle on the bark.

Let cool & harden.  Break into bite sized pieces.
