L'Bri Review

You know I always love to share my thoughts on different products with you. I've shared my experiences trying different products since I closed my own skin care business in September 2009. I've tried so many things. Some have been great. Some horrible. Some just so-so. I've had a routine down for a good few months. It has worked well for me. I liked it a great deal. I still do. There are things I can nit-pick about (artificial fragrance in them, for one) and things I can rave about (paraben-free, non-irritating, affordable, etc.).

Just over two weeks ago, a box from a company called L'BRI came across my desk. It included just about everything in the line and I decided to stop my other skin care cold turkey that night so I could fairly experience and assess the line. This doesn't always happen. If a line is full of junk ingredients, I don't slather them on my skin for 2 weeks straight. When I saw the ingredients in the new to me line, I knew it'd be safe to try. The skin care contains no petrochemicals, parabens or sulfates and the number one ingredient in every product is aloe vera.

I decided that since I can be extra critical when it comes to judging skin care that I would share some of the products with others as well as try them myself. I shared with a woman in her early 30s with normal skin and occasional hormonal breakouts. Her skin is also very sensitive. I also shared with someone in her 20s with a more oily skin type. My skin is normal with dry tendencies. It is also sensitive.

A funny thing happened along the way. I may just have fallen in love with the entire skin care line. I did not want this to happen. I will be frank. I am not a big fan of lines where I need to order through a consultant. This is one of those lines. I like to be able to buy a product while I am out and about at the store. I also like to be able to sit in my pjs in the middle of a sleepless night and be able to click a button and order from the computer.

I prejudged a bit. I thought this line would be like an Arbonne or Amway type of deal. I thought on the surface that this would claim to be a wholesome line, but have it be full of nasties. Not here.

Last week, I told you about the facial peel. By the way, there's still time to order that sample set AND the free full sized peel for only $35.50 with this link.

I've now been using the Gentle Cleansing Lotion, Gentle Freshener, Gentle Moisture Lotion, and the Smooth n' Firm Eye Repair Gel for 2 full weeks, morning and night. I have also been using the Rejuvenating Facial Peel, Exfoliating Facial and Body Scrub and the Facial Masque.I will review each for you today.

Skin Care Reviews & My Grade: an easy A

Gentle Cleansing Lotion ($15 for 3 month supply)--Prior to this, I was alternating between Aunt Nancy's Carrot Fragrance Free Soap in the morning and Burt's Bees Radiance Facial Cleanser at night. I also used safflower oil to oil-cleanse and remove my makeup and followed with the Burt's at night. You're also not allowed to get the Burt's by the eyes because it stings. I didn't use my Burt's in the morning because the fruit acids make the skin more photosensitive, and that is why I had to use separate products.

I have been able to use the L'BRI Gentle Cleansing Lotion morning and night. It removes my makeup (even mascara) with ease. It is free of sulfates and doesn't lather or foam. That is OK--remember, the more a cleaning product lathers, the more unpleasant ingredients are generally in the product.

I like this cleanser as it is free of artificial fragrance. It does have a light and fresh botanical aroma. It is extremely light. Aloe vera is the #1 ingredient, as is the case with all L'BRI products. The first time I used this, my olfactory nerves kicked in--that scent reminded me of something from years ago. It feels and smells much like the Cleansing Milk with Alpine Herbs from Clarins. I used to use that for years until I started to eliminate products with parabens.  The Clarins also has artificial colorants. The L'BRI just reminds me of the Clarins because it has that same lovely aroma and texture. It doesn't have the chemicals, though.

This cleanser effectively and gently cleanses the skin as it provides a nourishing and cooling feeling. It rinses clean. One thing I do is gently press the cleanser into my moist skin and then use upward, circular motions. It really feels luxurious. I only need a pea to dime sized amount in the morning and night.

This is my ideal cleanser. I can omit the multi-product cleansing routine with this. It also is very affordable, as it is $15 for a 6 ounce bottle that will last me a good long time. The ingredients are really stellar. This is truly a remarkable product and one I will be purchasing time and again. I have had cleanser that I really adored before--really good products--this one is simply a step above. With the aloe, chamomile, and other natural botanicals, my skin just drinks it up!

Freshener ($15 for 3 month supply)-Prior to using this, I had been using Thayer's Alcohol Free Rosewater. I really adore it. Aside from a bit of synthetic fragrance (you may notice a powdery rose note), I have had no complaints and I do still recommend it. The Freshener by L'Bri, again, is a step above my other favorites. Aloe vera is #1 in this, and there is also chamomile, green tea, passion flower, sea algae, pathenol, and more. It really is packed with nourishing ingredients and is very soothing to the skin.

It is alcohol free and does contain witch hazel. I have always liked alcohol free witch hazel, as it has many beneficial properties. This toner is ultra gentle and sweeps easily with a cotton pad over the skin to purify and remove any last tiny traces of makeup that may have been left behind. It preps the skin for the moisturizer I'm going to tell you about next.

Gentle Moisturizer ($22, 3 month supply, 4 oz.)--This could possibly be the best moisturizer for the face I have ever tried. Let's face it, nearly every moisturizer begins with water. Not this one. Your skin will feel the benefits of aloe vera as the first ingredient right after you apply it. This is a concentrated formula. You need a very small amount. In this formulation, you'll find squalane which just plumps up the skin with nourishment. There is also sea algae (like in Creme de la Mer), green tea, and vitamins A, C and E. What I also must note is that there ingredients are in abundance. They're not an afterthought or listed at the bottom of the list. These are found in concentrations that actually will have an impact on the skin.

When I use this I use a very small amount. I then add some water to my fingertips and then massage it into my skin. This is a top of the line formula and I recommend it from the bottom of my heart. It is excellent.

Exfoliating Face & Body Scrub ($16 for 4 month supply)--What a treat this one is! When a product is full of aloe, honey, and finely ground almonds, you know it's going to be good! Chamomile and vitamins are in here, too. Unlike many nut-based scrubs with sharp edges to irritate the skin, the almonds in this are very finely ground so they don't harm the skin. Real honey is in abundance in this to provide nourishing and anti-bacterial properties. This works really well on the face and on the body.

You only need a minimal amount to exfoliate. I use it on my torso, arms and legs too. It is non greasy and nourishing at the same time. The one negative is that triethanolamine is near the end of the ingredients list. While the amount in here is minimal, it is still present. While everything about this scrub is lovely, this ingredient is not. If it were removed, it would be what I would call a perfect scrub.

Facial Masque ($26.50 for 5 month supply)--this is such a unique product. When you use this, you will instantly feel the effects. Yes, you get the soothing aloe. What you will immediately feel, though, is the tight sensation. This mask will tighten up the skin instantly and make it hard to move your eye area, forehead, and mouth. Don't worry. It is very, very easily rinsed off.

This helps firm and tone the skin and even though I cannot say how well it gives a "face lift" effect since I have very few fine lines at this point in my life, I can tell you that it makes your skin feel firmer and smoother.

I believe that those with large pores and oily skin will find that this reduces the appearance of those pores while leaving a smooth and even texture behind.

When I use this, I also find that it feels like my skin has been primed for makeup.

Eye Repair Gel ($28 for 1 ounce, a 4 month supply)-- How nice this is!  If, however, you suffer from dark circles, puffy eyes, early fine lines, and dryness, you'll adore this recipe.

I love the cooling sensation the green gel gives. The aloe cools and soothes. What this aloe-rich product contains that is an anti-aging powerhouse is the gel's #2 ingredient: Acetyle Tetrapeptide-5. This is frequently found in the $80 products. This peptide is best used to treat puffiness and undereye bags. It is also effective at improving skin elasticity and decreasing the appearance of undereye circles. This peptide, though, is most known for reducing the puffy eyes.

This is among the best of the best in eye care. There is cucumber in it for those of us with sensitive eyes, rice bran, soy, grape seed, hyaluronic acid, coneflower, and a botanical called Eyebright. Eyebright is something actually grown that shows promise when it comes to treating dark circles.

I have also used this gel under my makeup as a primer with much success. It's truly a multi-purpose product!

I also want to mention the experience of my testers. I received this and have had the two ladies I mentioned earlier using it. Tester 1 was hesitant to try, as she was literally burned by skin care she had purchased at a skin care party recently. Her skin had a bad reaction and she needed to return the products. She has been enjoying her skin care from L'BRI and had no problems. My other tester says:  "I've been using my little sample kit and it's truly samples have come to end and I want more..."

The Chic & Green Bottom Line on L'BRI:

I do not take skin care reviews lightly. I can be overly critical. I admit it. So when I tell you that the skin care products from L'BRI as a whole are among the best ever, I am not saying it lightly. The cleanser, freshener, and moisturizer will become my permanent three step skin care staples. I am that swayed by this testing experience. These three products easily get a "perfect" ranking from me. I simply love them and actually look forward to using them twice a day.

The facial peel and eye gel are absolutely lovely products. I will repurchase both.
With the exception of the trace amounts of triethanolamine in the scrub, I recommend this one wholeheartedly as well.

The mask is a nice item. I am thinking that it would be more noticeable if I were 10 years older. I will test this on a couple of my older testers and report back to you.

L'BRI skin care items are just stellar. They get an A from me. The first three steps earn an A+. I can honestly say that these are just the best products on the market.

If you're looking for truly phenomenal skin care, I can recommend L'BRI to all of you. That is my professional opinion based on the ingredients and my own testing of this line. I have not found a line as a whole that I feel this strongly and passionate about. L'BRI is made in the USA (in Wisconsin) and is not tested on animals.

A note on the pricing as well--these products are quite concentrated and will last a very long time. If you compare the cost to other lines, even lower cost lines, these really provide a good value.

You do need to order from a rep, though. Go to to find a rep near you.
I hope someday we can all just order right from the site. It'd be so much more convenient. That said, yes, it is worth having to find a rep to get these products!

*Full Disclosure: I was sent these products for possible review. I did not pay for them. I was not compensated for my review. All opinions are my own.
