Cookies & Cream....Yum!
It's a beautiful, sunny day in the Rochester area today. Benjamin and I took a nice walk this morning after Nick went to school, walking in the village of Pittsford.
We stopped at Dolce Cupcakery, located at 50 State Street in the the Northfield Commons (Schoen Place) in Pittsford and decided to try their cupcakes.
Some of the cupcakes were still cooling, such as the Mama Bear (devil's food cake with cream cheese frosting), Vanilla, Double Chocolate, Red Velvet. The friendly ladies in the bakery also offered us Peanut Butter & Jelly or Carrot. That's OK, though, that those weren't out on display yet because the ones we really wanted were ready and sitting in front of us.
I chose the Chocolate Peanut Butter Bliss and Ben chose Cookies & Cream. Both were absolutely stunning to look at.
We drove back home and I fixed Ben his lunch before preschool and we sampled our cupcakes. I cut them in half and we each ate a quarter of each cupcake.
I had the little one use his trusty "Eenie meenie miney moe" system and he chose the Cookies & Cream for me to review today.
What I liked most right off the bat is that this cupcake was very fresh out of the oven. The cake was quite moist and was a deep chocolate flavor. I am a dark and bittersweet chocolate fan, so I really liked the depth of chocolate flavor in the cupcake.
What is the Cookies & Cream Cupcake? It's a tasty chocolate cupcake with an Oreo cookie filling and is topped with Oreo buttercream a
What's next for us? My friend and I are headed to Sugar Mountain Bake Shoppe in the next few days and I'll wrap up the contest with a stop at University Avenue's Goodness Cakes.
Overall Appearance: 10/10
Flavor of Cake: 9/10
Flavor of Frosting/Toppings: 9/10
Total Score: 46/50
*For those new to our challenge, here are the "rules": Since I would grow very tired of eating cupcakes if I could only choose one flavor each time, I am not picking just 1 variety and comparing. I want to find Rochester's very best cupcake (to me) overall. I will score each cupcake based on 5 things: overall appearance, creativity, texture, flavor of the frosting/toppings, and flavor of the cake part of the cupcake.
Each category will be scored on a 10 point scale, 10 being the best. The highest overall score possible for each cupcake judged will be 50 points.
This challenge will go on for a while. Since my older son was nearing the end of preschool, I have now lost 48 pounds and I am still a bit shy of my goal, so I just cannot eat a cupcake every single day. I will hit two or three places a week, order mini cupcakes when possible, and share with friends on occasion.
I also want to say that taste is something very subjective. Just because I adore a certain cupcake doesn't mean you will agree with 100% of my review. The opposite will also be true. With those things said, enjoy the reviews as they come and look for a winner at the end of next week.
